14U play 5 games in Salem, take top spot in bracket

The Avalanche 14U played 5 games over the span of three days at the Memorial Day Salem Invitational and came away with the first over-all in their bracket.

After going 1-2 in pool play on Saturday and Sunday, the Avalanche was seeded to play in the Monday Bronze bracket against the NW Bat Busters for the chance to advance to the Final.  The Busters would strike quickly in the bottom of the first to take a 0-1 lead over the Avalanche.  That advantage wouldn’t last long as #4 Alli P would lead off with a double, steal 3rd on a wild pitch and score a run off a bunt by #10 McKenzie M.  The game would see a big shift in score in the bottom of the third inning when a bases loaded triple and a single would plate 4 more runs for the Busters.  The Avalanche would not be deterred, as #27 Allison S and #2 Taylor D would both score by stealing home in the top of the fourth inning.  #22 Emily K would even the score with a two run home run to center.  Lena Z. would steal home to give the lead to the Avalanche and #4 Alli P would single to drive in #33 Madison G for the 6th run of the inning.  The NW Busters would fight back and get one more run in, but the Avalanche would hold with a pick-off at 2nd to win the game 7-6.

The final game of the day would end in a 16-0 win where #52 Lena Z pitched a no-hitter against the Bolts, striking out 5 of 9 hitters in 3 innings of play.

Great Job Avalanche!
